Oxygen Quartet was born within the saxophone department of the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country, Musikene, as a response to the artistic concerns of four young saxophonists. Their main goal is to develop the saxophone quartet repertoire, both within the classical tradition and through the exploration of experimental language.
Oxygen Quartet has been awarded Third Prize in the Musikene Chamber Music Competition and, since April 2024, after winning First Prize in the 14th Ciudad de Ávila Chamber Music Competition, has become part of Spain’s most important concert network for young performers, Juventudes Musicales España.
The ensemble regularly receives lessons from renowned professionals such as Miguel Ángel Lorente and Thomas Barthelemy, as well as occasional masterclasses from artists of the caliber of Spanish Brass, among others. Oxygen Quartet is the result of a shared dream: to create an original voice with four saxophones.
